LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted Tuesday to abate $19,733.49 in taxes for property that was sold by bid or kept by the town.

The properties that were sold earlier this month went for a total of $8,225.

Selectmen also signed the State of Maine assessor’s annual return for the town’s share of $161,044.84 of the $10.3 million Androscoggin County 2014 budget. The information will be used when selectmen commit taxes later this year.

The town’s share reflects an increase of $970.84 from what was assessed in 2013. It does not include the nearly $34,000 the county charged the town for emergency dispatch services for the year.

In another property matter, Town Manager Kristal Flagg told selectmen that Gerard Brochu of Livermore Falls is interested in the town’s tax-acquired property on Gagnon Street. The town had a vacant building removed from the site last year.

The property had previously gone out to bid but there were no bidders.

Representatives from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church had initially expressed interest in it for a parking lot but dropped their pursuit.

Flagg said she told Brochu there are IRS and Maine Revenue Services liens on it and the town does not clean those up.

It is a small lot and he could build on it as long as he meets the setback requirements, she said.

Board Chairman Bill Demaray said he did not know what the property is worth. He suggested Flagg ask Brochu to make an offer on it.
