AUGUSTA (AP) — A Winslow woman has pleaded not guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from youth sports organizations.

Wendi Willette pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to three counts of theft.

Prosecutors said the 41-year-old Willette stole more than $10,000 from the Winslow High School Wrestling Booster Club, where she was treasurer; and tried to steal money from the China girls’ field hockey team.

She faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted.

Wrestling club officers said that over nearly three years Willette depleted the club’s bank account from $20,000 to $54.

The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1cwOjKC ) reported that Willette’s lawyer says she is working on a deal with prosecutors that would require restitution, but added that there are still many financial documents to view in the case.
