FARMINGTON — A Mexico man escaped injury Friday morning when a loaded logging truck pushed his car sideways down Route 2 for about 200 feet before it stopped at a traffic light in front of Walmart.

Officer Darin Gilbert said he was making a traffic stop in front of Burger King and saw the car owned by David Richards, 57, being pushed down the road.

“I heard the rubber coming down the road,” Gilbert said. He reported the accident to dispatchers at about 10 a.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer loaded with wood attempted to change lanes near Bangor Savings Bank in the Mt. Blue Shopping Plaza and didn’t see the car slightly ahead of him, the officer said. The truck hooked the bumper of Richards’ car and pushed it on the driver’s side down the road until the truck stopped at a traffic light, Gilbert said.

The 2003 Western Star truck was driven by Keith Roy, 42, of Lancaster, N.H.

Neither Richards nor Roy, who was driving a Richard Carrier Trucking truck out of Skowhegan, was injured, Gilbert said.

Roy never saw the car until he was alerted to it by other people, he said.

Richards’ 2012 Hyundai Accent was a total loss, Gilbert said. There was a bumper imprint on the driver’s side of the car and the whole side was dented and pushed in.

In his 14 years, Gilbert said, he had never seen anything like it.

Gilbert issued Roy a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way, he said.
