New Auburn group to meet Jan. 28

AUBURN — The next regular monthly meeting of United New Auburn Association will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Rolly’s Diner.

New Auburn residents and business owners are encouraged to attend. All Auburn residents are welcome.

In addition to regular business, the discussion will focus on the New Auburn Master Plan. Speaker is TBA. Plans for “Salute to Dinny Sullivan Day” scheduled for Saturday, March 15, will begin. Members might also begin a conversation group on merging Auburn and Lewiston. Materials for distribution are welcome.

There will be a $50 cash door prize drawn. The person must be present to win, but does not have to be a member of the Association.

As always, refreshments will be provided and served by Ken Blais, owner of Rolly’s Diner.

Winter Warming Herbal Series

LEWISTON — The Winter Warming Herbal Series continues, with Jane Kuntz, certified family and consultant herbalist, and Mary Penner, nurse practitioner.

Week two, “Warm Away Bacteria and Viruses,” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at The Ark, 791 Lisbon St.

Learn about antimicrobial herbs which are able to either kill or disrupt pathogens. Lemon balm, bee balm, ginger, rosemary, thyme, St. John’s Wort and oregano have amazing power against bacteria and viruses. Attendees will learn ways to use them internally and how to make an antimicrobial cleaner to take home.

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Jan. 16 were: first, Steve Agurkis and Henry Maheux; second, Pat Records and Roland Bosse; third, Mickie Farnum and Don Haley; fourth, Trudy Faunce and Dwight Webb; fifth, Arline Laplante and Gil Cote.

Bean supper at American Legion

GRAY — A bean supper will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the American Legion Hall, 15 Lewiston Road.

The mean includes chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and desserts.

Cost is $8 for adults, $15 per couple, $2.50 for children 5-11, and free for under 5.

Cary Library Winter Book Sale

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will hold its Winter Book Sale at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, across from the library. This is one of the library’s two giant annual sales, with four rooms filled from floor to ceiling with gently used books. There will also be DVDs and CDs.

The sale is open on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, from 9 to 1, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 4-6, from 3 to 6. On Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, books will be sold for $1 a bag.

Weston A. Price Chapter Meeting

LEWISTON — A Weston A. Price Chapter meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Auburn Library in the Androscoggin Room on the bottom floor.

Free healthy living workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free healthy living workshop for cancer patients and survivors. “Moving Forward” will take place Mondays, Feb. 3-24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Amanda D. Ettinger, RD, LD, will discuss weight loss, general health improvement and answer nutrition questions. Topics include nutrition basics, goal-setting and emotional eating along with preparing a healthy recipe or two. Registration limited to 12.
