RUMFORD — The Festival of Trees Committee and the Kreckel family are sponsoring a tree dedicated to our military.

Wooden ornaments will be available for military service and family and friends of military, past and present who wish to participate. On one side of the ornament, you can write the name, branch of the military, the time served and/or conflict or war that the person you wish to honor or memorialize served in. On the other side, a picture of the service member can be added. The size of the ornament is 3 inches long and 1.75 inches high. The tree and ornaments will be donated to the American Legion after the Festival of Trees.

Applications for the Festival of Trees are available at the Rumford Town Hall. Spaces are limited for lighted trees.

The Festival of Trees show will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Rumford Falls Auditorium.

The show will have a different format then years past. Doors open at 5 p.m. as Santa, Mrs. Claus, Frosty and Panda Bear will all be there at 5:30 to meet with and have their pictures taken with any and all kids. They will be there until 6:30 and then will be leaving for the evening. Make sure if you want to have a picture taken you bring a camera.

The show will start at 7 with RAAPA entertaining with beautiful Christmas songs. Then, Nancy Demming will entertain us with a reading of “Bears stay up for Christmas.” The first half of the show will end with Thea Dunn and the “Prop Box” singers. This is a group of young people entertaining the audience with their beautiful voices.

The intermission will feature hot chocolate, coffee and water along with homemade cookies for everyone. There will also be time to vote for the best looking tree on display. There will also be time to buy that 50/50 ticket and a donation jar will be there if you are so inclined. By the way, all this is free except for the 50/50 raffle.

The second half of the show will begin with Melanie Jordan getting the audience hopping with her lively Christmas songs. They will then announce winners of the best trees for 2013. Then, smooth singing Andy St Pierre will entertain with a couple of country Christmas songs.

The entertainment portion of the evening will conclude with the beautiful voices of Thea Dunn and Elaine Michaud, who will also lead a grand finale of a community singalong. So bring your singing voices.

The final activity of the evening will be gifts given out to all the children that attend as they are leaving. They hope everyone will have a good time and a very Merry Christmas.
