BIDDEFORD (AP) — Biddeford police are still looking for the driver of a vehicle who left the scene after striking and severely injuring an 89-year-old nun.

Sister Viola Lausier suffered a lacerated liver and collapsed lung when she was struck crossing the street near the convent Monday morning. Another sister told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1ejJzoA) she also broke her lower right arm and fractured her nose.

She was walking to an agency that helps pregnant woman and new mothers where she works.

Lausier was listed in fair condition at a Portland hospital Wednesday night.

She is with the Good Shepherd Sisters, also known as the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Deputy Police Chief JoAnne Fisk said Lausier was clipped by the side view mirror of a passing vehicle.
