LEWISTON — On Nov. 4, the Lewiston Senior Citizens met at the Green Ladle for their annual Thanksgiving dinner.

The members received a report on the joint holiday basket project they are doing with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s Auburn/Lewiston Clubhouse. The goal had been to provide holiday baskets for 10 families, and enough was raised to provide 12 families with gift baskets.

In addition, 1,000 coupons and holiday cards from the boys, girls and seniors will be sent to military members. Most expired coupons will be honored for military members and their families for up to six months.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the Lewiston Memorial Armory. Kathy Haley will perform and there will be light refreshments.

The annual Christmas party will be on Dec. 6 at the CJ Hall, Webster Street. Present Company will perform after lunch.

Door prizes will be drawn, along with a raffle. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there.

The seniors will be collecting unwrapped toys, hats and mittens to be given to an agency working with abused women so that their children will have something for the holidays.

Items for children ages infants to teens can be dropped off at the Senior Center.

On Dec. 20, the group will go see Portland Symphony’s Magic of Christmas at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland. Seats are still available.
