RUMFORD — The Rumford American Legion will be hosting their first job and resource fair from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 7, in conjunction with the Maine CareerCenter group.

Patti Gray, a CareerCenter consultant, said that Maine CareerCenter has been holding job and resource fairs “pretty consistently for the past two to three years,” though this is the first year that they have held one in Rumford.

“I’ve seen an influx of unemployed people in that area, and some of the employers in that region felt that having a job and resource fair in Rumford instead of Lewiston would be a better way to find employees,” Gray said. “We decided that we’d try it there and see how it goes.”

Gray said that the Lewiston CareerCenter sent out a “mass email to their Rumford-area business contacts” to see who wanted to pre-register for the job fair.

The American Legion in Rumford will be hosting the job and resource fair, where Gray said “around 29 employers and 12 veterans’ resources will be set up.”

Among the employers attending the job fair on Thursday are Bonney Staffing, FedEx Ground, New Balance, Oxford Casino, Sunday River and the U.S. Army and Navy.

Gray said that the job and resource fairs in Lewiston have been great, with 60 businesses registering and “somewhere between 400 and 600 participants showing up.”

“I’m not sure what the Rumford job fair will look like, but if it goes well, we’ll absolutely hold another one in the future,” Gray said. “Whatever we can do to get people employed.”
