MEXICO — Residents will vote on whether or not to approve the latest set of changes made to the town’s mobile home ordinance on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Calvin B. Lyons Meeting Hall at the Mexico Town Office.
According to Selectman Reggie Arsenault, the ordinance had not been updated in years. As a result, Arsenault said that the Planning Board attempted to “give the ordinance some teeth” and provided stricter conditions for residents to abide by. Arsenault is a member of the Planning Board responsible for updating the ordinance.
The changes to the ordinance include requiring trailers to have pitched and shingled roofs, changing the setback distance from the front of a lot to 35 feet from the centerline of a park road, and requiring a mobile home to be placed on a permanent foundation that matches the conditions set forth by the Planning Board.
If the ordinance passes during the Nov. 5 election, Arsenault said that the changes will only effect any new trailers or trailer parks moving into town.
“We can’t really do anything about the lots that are already in place, but the new ones that come in will have to conform to the new ordinance if it’s passed,” Arsenault said during the Oct. 22 selectmen meeting.
Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mexico Town Office.
