WATERBORO — A suspicious package containing the message “To Massabesic from Sanford” was discovered at Massabesic High School on Saturday morning, and two Sanford High School students are facing charges, police said.

The package was found less than 24 hours after a football game between the two rivals had been postponed from Friday night to Saturday afternoon because of a rumored threat, according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

King said the package was found outside the door of the Massabesic athletic director’s office at 7 a.m. by school officials. The package was wrapped in Christmas gift wrap.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the school and determined that the package contained a sex toy with an explicit note describing what could be done with the item, King explained.

Jason Solomon, School Resource Officer at Massabesic High, conducted an investigation and was able to identify two suspects, Isaac Sweeney, 18, of Springvale and a juvenile, King said.

Sanford School Resource Officer Michael Gordon assisted Solomon with the investigation, along with administrators from both schools, King said. Police ultimately charged Sweeney and the juvenile with disorderly conduct.

While neither student believed the prank would result in a police investigation, they also expressed remorse over the incident.

Both students also face discipline from Sanford school officials.
