Community Credit Union President/CEO Kerry Wood, left, and Executive Vice President Jen Hogan hold awards won at the 2013 Maine Credit Union League Convention. The credit union took first place for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award, the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award, the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, and the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award. Maine’s credit unions compete against each other and the winners of the statewide award competition are submitted to the national competition where winners are announced in late February at the Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. Community Credit Union’s involvement in projects such as the Adopt-A-School partnership with Washburn Elementary in Auburn and ongoing lobby promotion efforts within the branches proved to be strong factors in the award selection process. The Dora Maxwell Award recognizes credit union involvement in community projects as well as activities. The Louise Herring Award is given to credit unions that showcase excellence in member service. Recipients of the Desjardins Youth Award are recognized for demonstrating outreach and youth financial literacy initiatives. Similarly, the Desjardins Adult Award is given to credit unions demonstrating excellence in financial education for adults. Community Credit Union is a member-owned, full service financial institution serving members and Androscoggin County since 1945 with branches at 144 Pine St., Lewiston, and 40 Stanley St , Auburn. A new branch is scheduled to open on Route 4 in Turner in 2014.
