Girl Scouts plan bake sale Oct. 19

MEXICO — Girl Scout Troop 1510 will hold a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Mexico Walmart.

The troop is raising money for a trip to New York City.

Indoor yard sale at Wilkins House

WATERFORD — An indoor yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Wilkins House on Plummer Hill Road.

This is the last sale for the year. New items are frequently added, many of which are suitable for gift giving. There will be a table with Christmas decorations. All proceeds benefit the Wilkins House and the church.

Bear program at Whitman Library

BRYANT POND — Learn all about bears at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Whitman Memorial Library.

Sarah Wright will present a CD, “Bear Walker of the North Woods,” prepared by Dr. Lynn Rogers, head of the North American Bear Center.

Rogers is a world expert on bears and has spent 46 years studying them. This program will show how bears live through all four seasons of the year.

Wright is one of 20 speakers associated with the N.A. Bear Center who give programs to promote factual information about these animals.

The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.
