In his letter (Sept. 28), Charles Bennett complained that the Farmington Fair has changed from a good fair to a food fair. He said, “Where were the crafts and things that made going to the fair fun? All I saw was food, food, food.” He then questioned why there were six french fry vendors.

Wow. Did he go to the fair with blinders on? My wife and I saw a ton of crafts there, including many beautiful quilts, artwork and photography. We saw wood crafts and a man carving figures of wild birds. There were many sheep, rabbits, goats, horses, cows, etc. We saw antiques, farm implements, a blacksmithing demonstration, cars and the proverbial little red schoolhouse. There were church booths and many businesses displaying their wares.

Sure, there were a few empty spaces around, probably because the fees went up. So what? And having six french fry vendors at a fair that size is nothing unusual.

I don’t think the Farmington Fair should be getting such a bad rap.

We try to make it there every year, simply because it’s a good, old-fashioned county fair that is not so huge that it’s like trying to walk through New York City.

I enjoy watching all the families just having simple fun together. It is a gift to see such innocence still thriving on a planet that is always being headlined with stories of terrorism and violence.

I encourage folks to come next year and enjoy this little gem of a fair.
