AUGUSTA — One person was shot in an attempted armed robbery in Augusta on Monday, and police are searching for the suspect.

The victim suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, according to Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills, but when the victim was questioned by police, the victim did not want to press charges.

The suspect, described as a man of Hispanic origin wearing a black sweatshirt and gray pants, attempted to commit the robbery in the area of Boothby Street, according to Mills.

According to witnesses, the gunman brandished his weapon and quickly fled after the incident, the deputy chief said.

Augusta police and Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies conducted an intense search that included a sheriff’s K-9 unit, but the suspect was not found.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident and no other information was disclosed.
