BALTIMORE — Joshua Charest, who is attending Johns Hopkins University, made the dean’s list for the recent winter semester.

Joshua is the son of John and Louise Charest who live in Lewiston. He is a 2010 graduate of St. Dominic Academy, Auburn.

Joshua was also recently accepted into the Johns Hopkins engineering master’s program and will begin his master’s work during his upcoming senior year.

Joshua spent two summers as an engineering intern for Procter & Gamble and is currently working as an engineering intern in the Innovations Lab for Under Armor designing and testing products.

LOWELL, Mass. — Nathan Blais of Auburn was recently recognized for achieving academic distinction at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Blais, majoring in exercise physiology, was named to the dean’s list at UMass Lowell for the spring 2013 semester.

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Katherine Dianne Avery graduated magna cum laude from State University of New York at Cortland on May 18 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice.

While attending SUNY-Cortland, Katie was on the dean’s list every semester. She was placed on the president’s list for the spring 2013 semester. Katie graduated with a 3.58 GPA.

Katie was inducted in the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma) in April 2012 as well as the National Political Science Honor Society (Pi Sigma Alpha) in May 2013. She was awarded the following honor cords: blue/white for her EMS dedication, the red/black and white cords as well as gold cords awarded for the national honor societies to wear on graduation day.

A 2009 North Yarmouth Academy graduate, she played for the DIII Cortland Red Dragons hockey team as the team’s goaltender. While attending SUNYCortland, she became a “crew” chief and member at large on the Cortland’s EMS squad.

Katie has been employed at FunTown-SplashTown USA as an EMT-B while home and also was a volunteer for the Sabattus Fire/Rescue Department as a fire fighter and EMT-B during the summer months.

Following in her father’s and older brother’s footsteps, Katie has just been hired as a police officer for the Auburn Police Department. She began attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro in August.

She is the daughter of Tom and Diane Avery of Lewiston and the granddaughter of David and Margaret Avery of Auburn and Zita Bolduc of Lewiston.

ASHBURNHAM, Mass. — Lawrence A. Taylor of Raymond graduated from Cushing Academy in May and received high honors for the spring 2013 term.

Kelly Bly of Buckfield received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Michaela Sangillo of Gray received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Linda Rand of Lewiston received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Hannah Pressler of Poland received a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

CLEMSON, S.C. — Andrew Richard Ferrari of Farmington has enrolled at Clemson University. Ferrari is majoring in chemistry.
