Convey will perform a wonderful assortment of dance pieces from the 20th and 21st century including Astor Piazzolla’s “Mumuki” and “Street Tango,” George Antheil’s “Little Shimmy” and “Percussion Dance” and Gabriela Ortiz’s “Su-Muy-Key.” Maier will perform works by Felix Mendellsohn and Fanny Hensel, including Hensel’s “Nottumo in G minor” and Mendellsohn’s “Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 14.” Pane will perform two Chopin Mazurkas and Prokofiev’s “Piano Sonata No. 3.” Prior to performing, Pane will read a short essay connecting Edward Said’s ideas about “beginnings” and these early works of Chopin and Prokofiev.

Convey has been a featured musician at several national and international festivals, with a strong focus on music by living composers. Her work has been heard at venues throughout Maine, as well as the Ojai Music Festival in California, Fechin Institute Chamber Concert Series in New Mexico, and Maybeck Performing Arts Studio in California.

Maier studied at the University of Maine, the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow, Scotland and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently president of the Maine Music Teachers Association and an active performer and accompanist throughout Maine.

Pane, professor of music at UMF, has performed internationally as a pianist, chamber musician and conductor. He recently performed American premieres of piano works by Romanian composers, Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana-Maria Avram, who explore elements of acoustical sounds in their music.

In celebration of piano keyboards, authentic Black and White cookies will be sold during intermission.
