AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is supporting a program that rebuilds old transit buses to extend their life and save money.

The Republican governor will speak at an event at the Capitol on Wednesday hosted by the Maine Military Authority, a company that refurbishes buses. The event will feature a transit bus that has been fixed up.

LePage signed an Executive Order establishing a school bus refurbishing program in 2011. Since then Maine Military Authority has teamed up with the Department of Education to rebuild 15 school buses. His office said that has saved schools about $750,000.

The program that will be touted on Wednesday will be a similar program, but with transit buses.
