CARTHAGE — The Maine Warden Service on Tuesday released the name of the 15-year-old Carthage boy who was killed Sunday night while riding a dirt bike on Tuesday.

Tyla J. Thibodeau had been carrying a coil of rope while riding the small, motorized bike when it got entangled in the rear wheel. The boy became entangled as well, Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said in a news release.

Wardens responded to a Smith Road residence at 8 p.m. Sunday to a report of a fatal ATV accident. Thibodeau had been staying with friends and was operating a small, motorized, two-wheel dirt bike/mini bike.

Motorized dirt bikes/mini bikes are considered ATVs by Maine officials.

Thibodeau died at the scene.

The body was transported to Meader and Son Funeral Home in Rumford for examination by the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death. The cause will be released as soon as it becomes available.

The case is being reviewed by the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office and is under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
