1935 – 2013
NEW GLOUCESTER — Willis L. Verrill, 78, of New Gloucester, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, at his home.
Willis was born June 7, 1935, in Lewiston, the son of the late Angie and Merritt Verrill. He graduated from New Gloucester schools. His wife of 57 years, Elaine Verrill, died December 2012.
He served in the United States Army Reserves and was a truck driver most of his working career. He also worked as a locksmith at Pineland Center, where he retired. He and his wife solely owned and operated Will and Lame’s Farm Stand for 16 years.
Willis was recently presented with a 50-year membership pin of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge 12. He also was a volunteer with the New Gloucester Fire Department for many years. Other interests included the Boston Red Sox, hunting, fishing and trapping.
He is survived by a brother, Howard of New Gloucester; sister, Betty Robidoux of West Springfield, Mass.; children, Susan Hall (Richard), Debbie Hodgman (Scott), Cindy Hurdle (Michael), Lori Bilter (Alex) and Charlie and Dennis Verrill.
He was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Diane Boulanger.
