LEWISTON — College for ME-Androscoggin, in partnership with the Maine Community Foundation, announces five winners of Thomas W. Musgrave and Beulah Long Musgrave Fund Scholarships in Androscoggin County.

College for ME-Androscoggin will award $1,000 scholarships to the following students:

Joseph Berry of Auburn, University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College; Carman Edwards of Auburn, University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College; Kristie Feeley of Lewiston, University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College; Kris LaChapelle of Lewiston, Central Maine Community College; and Catherine Moran of Lisbon, Kaplan University.

This scholarship provides support for tuition and fees for adult learners who are enrolled in an accredited program of study leading to a degree, certification or similar recognition.

The recipients were selected on the basis of their personal statements, letters of recommendation and financial need. Preference was given to those applicants for whom the scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend school.

According to Jan Phillips, executive director of College for ME-Androscoggin, “These five individuals demonstrate academic ability and resilience, as well as the work ethic that makes our community so special. We are very pleased to welcome them as our newest Musgrave Scholarship recipients.”

College for ME-Androscoggin will award another group of $1,000 scholarships late next fall for the Spring 2014 semester. Applications will be available in the late fall at www.collegeformeandroscoggin.org. Eligible students must have resided in Maine for the previous five years, reside in Androscoggin County, and demonstrate financial need and good character.
