OQUOSSOC — Leslie Hilyard will demonstrate the “Carrie Stevens’ method” of fly tying from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Rangeley Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum.
Hilyard owns Rangeley Favorite Trout and Salmon Flies, which was founded by famed fly tier Carrie G. Stevens.
He and his father, Graydon Hilyard, were so captivated by the work and life of Mrs. Stevens that in 2000, they published, “Carrie Stevens, Maker of the Rangeley Favorite Trout And Salmon Flies,” Kevin Sinnett, director of the Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society, said Sunday in a news report.
Through this work, they chronicled the life and extensive streamer patterns of Stevens, as well as the Rangeley region, especially the area of Upper Dam where Wallace and Carrie Stevens plied their crafts, Sinnett said.
Leslie often lectures on these subjects and gives tying classes and demonstrations of Stevens’ method.
