PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Miranda Casey received an Academic Excellence Award from Plymouth State University. This award is given to students obtaining a grade point of 3.50 or higher.
Miranda is a 2012 Edward Little graduate majoring in business marketing and professional sales.
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — Rebecca Verrill of Otisfield participated in the May 2013 graduate commencement ceremony at State University of New York at New Paltz. Verrill received her Master of Fine Arts in ceramics.
The ceremony recognized two cohorts of students: August and December 2012 and May and August 2013 candidates.
SANTA FE, N.M. — St. John’s College announces the graduation of Leah Costlow of Auburn on May 18.
St. John’s College strives to give students the tools to understand the human condition through sustained interaction with the great minds of Western civilization. Each of the college’s 450 undergraduate students study a comprehensive, all-required curriculum based on the Great Books.
There are no majors and no departments; all students study an all-required program, which includes extensive discussion, reflection and writing on the classics of literature, philosophy, theology, psychology, political science, economics, history, mathematics, laboratory sciences and music. Each senior is required to write and defend a senior essay in an oral examination as a requirement of graduation.
Leah’s senior essay was titled “Within City Walls: The Imitative Soul in Plato’s Republic.”

CONWAY, S.C. — Kyle Maines of Bethel graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration – management on May 11. Approximately 950 candidates were eligible for graduation.
SOUTH PORTLAND — Joel P. Dumond of Greene has made the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Southern Maine Community College.
His course of study is electrician technology and air conditioning/refrigeration.
SOUTH PORTLAND — On May 11, Heather Hastings of Norway graduated from University of Southern Maine with a masters degree in music performance (horn).
Hastings is a 2010 Plymouth State University graduate, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education and a 2006 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
Heather is planning on returning to teaching in the fall. She is the daughter of Stephen and Rebecca Hastings.
ORONO — On May 11, Charles Hastings of Norway graduated from University of Maine Orono with a masters degree in business administration.
Charles is a 2011 University of Maine at Orono graduate, with a Bachelor of Arts in communications, minors in public relations and marketing, and a 2007 Graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
Charles will return to Orono in the fall for a masters in policy and international affairs as a joint degree with his MBA. Charles is the son of Stephen and Rebecca Hastings.
