Cryptogram contest winner

PARIS — Randy Rosenberg is the $5 winner of Paris Public Library’s April Cryptogram Contest.

May’s cryptograms are ready to pick up at the library’s front desk. This month’s focus celebrates and honors Memorial Day and those who sacrificed their all for our freedoms.

May’s completed cryptograms need to be in on or before May 31 for the $5 drawing.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on May 6 were as follows: first, Priscilla Rooth and Jim Krainin; second, Mary Trafton and Luke Merry; third, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements.

Winners on May 7 were: first, Les Buzzell and Fred Letourneau; second/third tie, Kathy Burden and Mary Trafton with Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; fourth, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; first in B, Kathy Burden and Mary Trafton; second/first in C, Sue Kaluzynski and Donna Bartlett.

Take a Chance auction May 11

FRYEBURG — The 21st annual Take a Chance auction will take place Saturday, May 11, at the Natural Resource Building, Fryeburg Fairgrounds.

Items can be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. The drawing begins at 7.

A food booth and $1 table will be available. A 50/50 raffle will benefit Robert Lee.

The auction is hosted by the Saco Valley 4-H Beef, Dairy and Sheep Club.

Library program on black bears

BRYANT POND — Sarah Wright will present a PowerPoint program on “Black Bears: Dispelling the Myths for Peaceful Coexistence,” at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Whitman Memorial Library.

Wright is one of the few education outreach speakers belonging to the organization of the Wildlife Research Institute. This is an educational program for all: hunters, non-hunters, old and young. The program is factual and entertaining.

All programs are open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Community potluck supper

WATERFORD — The Wilkins Community House will hold its monthly community potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16. All are welcome.

The Community House is located in Waterford Flat on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green next door to the church. The hosts for this supper are Martha Eaton, Sara Stockwell and Antoinette Tarbell. This will be the last supper until the fall. Bring a friend and a dish to share.
