Vet monument fundraiser

NEW GLOUCESTER — A wine and cheese fundraiser for the New Gloucester Veterans’ Monument will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Connemara Farm, 37 Peacock Hill Road. Suggested donation is $25 per person and all profits go to the construction of the monument.

Boy Scout bottle drive

Valentine’s Artisan Fair

NEW GLOUCESTER — Almost 20 artisans will be at the Valentine’s Artisan Fair to be held at Connemara Farm, 37 Peacock Hill Road, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. The artisans representing a cross section of local creativity will demonstrate and sell their singular creations. Admission is free.

‘Jane Ricker Tea Party’

POLAND — The Ricker Memorial Library will hold a “Jane Ricker Tea Party” from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Community Room at the library on Route 26. The event is free and is to honor Jane Ricker and the 50th anniversary of the Ricker Memorial Library. Desserts will be offered.

Pegmatite mining is topic

POLAND — Friends of Ricker Library have invited Mary Groves, owner of Poland Mining Camps, to speak at their February Person to Person Event. Groves, a self described rockhound, will display a collection of heart-shaped rocks in her talk, Hearts of Stone.

The Poland Mining Camps, with its Geological Conference Center, is located within the heart of Maine’s granite pegmatite belt. Collectors and enthusiasts from all walks of life and with every level of experience and expertise come there each summer to collect and learn about minerals, pegmatites and some local history, as well. Groves will share information about the camp experience with her audience.

This Person to Person Potluck/Program will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10. Supper and conversation hour will begin at 5:30. Guests are asked to bring a casserole, salad or dessert to share. Groves’ talk will begin at 6:30. Everyone is welcome.

American Legion Post 210 meeting

DAR meeting is Feb. 13

LEWISTON — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Marco’s Restaurant on Mollison Way. Speaker will be RJ Gilliam, the founder of a Lewiston-area Veteran Riders Motorcycle Club.

Any woman over the age of 18 with a provable blood lineage to a Revolutionary Patriot who fought or gave aid to the cause of American Independence is welcome to join. The DAR is a service organization with emphasis on historical preservation, education and patriotism. The group has volunteer genealogists to help with your research and documentation. Valentine’s party Feb. 13

LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society will host its annual Valentine’s Day Party on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the MTM Center, 18 School St. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event starts at 7.

The event will include an optional “hand-made” Valentine card swap, games and prizes. Attendees are encouraged to bring artifacts, share a story or recite a poem relating to Valentine’s Day. There will be refreshments. Wear something red to add to the festivities.

‘Family, Friends’ CPR course

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services department at Central Maine Community College will offer the American Heart Association’s “Family and Friends” CPR course from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

This quick course is designed to teach potential rescuers the basics of CPR. Participants will experience a practice-as-they-watch class format. Topics covered include hands-only CPR and AED use for adults, child CPR and AED use and infant CPR. Adult, child and infant choking relief will also be covered.

This single-morning course is open to the public and is intended for individuals who want to learn CPR but do not need to be certified. Deadline for registration is Feb. 14; space is limited. The cost is $49 and includes materials.
