PARIS — A Chelsea man charged with robbing a Fryeburg Rite-Aid in October pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of robbery and operating after suspension.

Michael E. Freeman, 25, of Chelsea, is accused of stealing oxycodone pills.

According to a police report by officer Richard Murray of the Fryeburg Police Department, Freeman entered the Rite Aid store on Bridgton Road and handed the pharmacist a note that read: “Oxycodone 30’s in a bag and no one will get hurt, now.”

Police found Freeman’s truck in traffic near the Fryeburg Fair at the intersection of routes 5 and 302. After calling the truck’s owner, Freeman’s employer, and getting permission to search the truck, police found the note, a Rite Aid bag and the pills.

On Tuesday, the court agreed to lower Freeman’s surety bail from $70,000 to $25,000 at the request of his attorney, Maurice Porter. Freeman has been in jail since his arrest in October. If released, he is to have no contact with Rite Aid. He will be barred from using drugs and subject to random searches and testing.
