Eastern Star meeting Nov. 8

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Members will be having an ESTARL supper and will be honoring chaplains. Supper will be at 6 p.m.

Cribbage League winners named

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Nov. 1 were: first place, Henry Maheux and Arnie Burgess; second, Connie St. Pierre and Lorraine Fillion; third, Richard Champagne and Moe Fournier; fourth, Don Haley and Ron Hynes; fifth, Mickie Farnum and Ronnie Gould.

Spiritual workshop for caregivers

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free spiritual workshop for cancer caregivers. “How to Maintain a Spirit of Faith & Hope” will take place Monday, Nov. 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Central Maine Medical Center Pastoral Care Department chaplain Therese Demers will guide participants through a reflective process including how to maintain faith and hope as you journey with your loved one; how to strengthen and nourish your relationship with your higher power and how to embrace life as it changes.

NARFE meeting topic: history

LEWISTON — Chapter 1804 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Ramada Inn.

A social hour will be followed by lunch at noon.

Douglas Hodgkin, a retired Bates college professor and newsletter editor of the Androscoggin Historical Society, will present an overview history of the City of Lewiston.

La Leche League meeting Nov. 14

AUBURN — Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are all invited to a La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

St. Ann Sodality membership meeting

‘Maine in the War of 1812’

Glatz, Maine history expert, will be the speaker on “Maine in the War of 1812” at the meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, Route 231. The presentation is free and open to the public.

AUBURN — The annual Christmas fair at the Sixth Street Congregational Church will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at 109 Sixth St.

A bake table, homemade baked beans to go, hand-knit items, gifts, candy, gently used items, jewelry, handmade toys and a Secret Santa Room for children will be available.

Theme baskets and a handmade quilt will be raffled. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Drug awareness essay contest

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Elks Lodge 371 is holding a Drug Awareness Essay Contest that is open to all students currently in the sixth through eighth grades. The theme of the essay will be “The Choice for ME is Drug Free.”

The essay should be no longer than 500 words (two pages), and must be either typed or printed legibly in ink by the entrant. The participant must also include their name, grade, school attending and the name of the sponsoring Elks Lodge, which in this case would be the Lewiston Elks Lodge on the essay.

Essays should be submitted to the Lewiston Elks Lodge at 1675 Lisbon St., Lewiston, ME 04240 by Jan. 1. Judging will follow, and winners will advance to the District for further review, and then possibly advance to the State for final judging.

Vendor Expo aids Toys for Tots

GRAY — From noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Spring Meadows Golf Club, 59 Lewiston Road, more than 25 vendors will come together for Santa’s Helpers Holiday Shopping Expo. It is a vendor event and a Toys for Tots fundraiser.

Offerings include customized jewelry, alpaca products, photography and much more for holiday shopping. All of the vendors are local businesses and local consultants for direct sales businesses.

Donations for Toys for Tots will be accepted during the event. Donate a toy and receive a free goodie bag from all of the vendors. Many vendors will also have raffles at their table. At this time the vendor spaces are all spoken for.
