Jean sale at Thrifty Gift Shop

PARIS — A jean sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27, at the Thrifty Gift Shop, 659 Park St., Route 26.

There are more than 100 jeans, ranging in size from infant to adult.

Bayberry Craft Fair is Oct. 27

HARRISON — The Bolsters Mills Ladies Guild will hold its annual Bayberry Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church on Bolsters Mills Road.

As always there will be exceptional artisans and crafters with a gifted fiber spinner who spins wonderfully different and colorful yarns; a chocolatier making homemade chocolates, jellies, jams and other tasty treats; a knitter who always comes up with unusual and beautifully knitted items ranging from hats and mittens to shawls, handbags and more; jewelry makers with their own differing styles; handmade wooden toys; houseplants and other really creative crafts to mention only a few.

Oxford Hills’ well known photographer, Robin Priest, will be there with her creative photos and gift items. There will be craft tables both upstairs and downstairs. There will be Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts and baked goods including homemade pies.

Refreshments and lunch will be served throughout the fair with proceeds benefiting the church’s Camp Mechuwana Scholarship fund.

Hunters breakfast at Fish & Game

OXFORD — A public hunters breakfast will be held from 4:30 to 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Lake Thompson Fish and Game clubhouse, Paine Road.

The menu includes eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, baked beans, toast, juice and coffee. The cost for adults is $7. Children under 12 are $4.

Gardening workshop

NORWAY — A free Forest Gardening Workshop will be held at the Alan Day Community Garden from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. The event is open to the public.

The workshop will explore ways in which perennial plants, shrubs and trees can work together to build fertile soil, provide habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects, and yield abundant food for humans and wildlife.

The food forest concept was developed in England, but is now gaining popularity in the U.S., especially in the Northeast. The concept emulates diverse natural ecosystems to create abundance with little or no outside inputs to the system once it is established. Food forests, also known as forest gardens or perennial polycultures, require less labor than conventional gardening which relies primarily on annual plant species and outside inputs to provide fertility.

As a group attendees will begin to design a food forest by observing the site, developing a list of appropriate plants and potential sources, and beginning basic preparations to the area.

Halloween party, spook walk

OXFORD — A Halloween Party/Spook Walk is scheduled for Oxford residents on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. There will be a costume judging contest at 6, as well as games and prizes throughout the evening.

Dems to hold Final Push Supper

RUMFORD — The traditional Final Push Supper of the Oxford County Democrats will be held at the Rumford Eagles Hall on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 p.m. with Congressman Mike Michaud as the guest of honor and candidates Sen. John Patrick, Rep. Matt Peterson, Rep. Sheryl Briggs,Mike Broderick, Jane Rich and Carol Gutekunst in attendance.
