BATH, Maine (AP) — Bath Iron Works is laying off another 38 workers.
Shipyard spokesman Jim DiMartini said Machinists Union Local S6 was alerted Friday and individual workers will be notified next week. The jobs will be eliminated on Oct. 12.
It’s the third layoff announcement at BIW this month. The shipyard previously announced elimination of 88 jobs to match the workforce with current demand from the Navy.
DeMartini said the layoffs are necessary to maintain a “balance between the work moving through the various stages of the shipbuilding process and the skills needed to complete that work.”
