AUBURN — Widows Conference 2012, “Making the Widow’s Heart Sing,” will take place Sept. 21 and 22 at East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave. The conference is designed for widow ministry leaders.

The workshop will provide practical tools to help love and honor the widow. Attendees will learn proven ways to empower and help widows.

Participants may choose a Session One workshop and a Session Two workshop. Session One choices are: New Commandment Men’s Ministry, how to involve teams of men in widow ministry; Nuts and Bolts, how to start a widow ministry; What a Widow Won’t Tell You and You Need to Know; Sweet Mondays, socials on a shoestring; and Beauty for Ashes, how to help a widow see beauty in her time of loss.

Session Two options are: New Commandment Men’s Ministry; Sweet Mondays; Financial Road Map for Widows; Elder Abuse and Social Services; GriefShare, support groups for the grieving; and Professional Counseling, what to look for and when to refer.

Speakers are CarolMarie Smith and Judith Nichols Moore. Smith is an international speaker and writer. She is co-author of Widows International “Widows & Leaders Training” manual. A widow since 1999, Smith relates to the plight widows face.

Moore serves as International Director of Widows Ministry and is president of Widows International. She also serves on the International Council of Widows Ministry. She is the former director for the Iris B. Vest Widows Ministry Center, a residential program for widows under the auspices of the Church of God. Moore has been married for more than 35 years.

Registration Friday, Sept. 21, will take place from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the opening session with speakers Moore and Smith from 7 to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

Saturday, Sept. 22, will begin with registration from 8 to 9 a.m. Morning session will run from 9 to 10:15 a.m., workshop I from 10:30 to 11:30, lunch from 11:30 to 12:30, workshop II from 12:30 to 1:30 and the afternoon session from 1:45 to 3 p.m.

The cost for an individual is $25. The cost for a group is $25 for the first person and $10 for each additional. Lunch is included in the registration fee.
