BOWDOINHAM — State Police were expected to shut down both southbound lanes of I-295 around 1 p.m. so a LifeFlight helicopter can land and pick up a man seriously injured in a rollover, according to spokesman Steve McCausland.

The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound lane at mile 36. A man, the lone occupant, was thrown from his vehicle as it overturned and came to rest on its wheels in the roadway, according to a release from McCausland.

It was unclear which hospital LifeFlight planned to fly to. Before it arrives, the interstate has been reduced to one lane in that spot.
