AUGUSTA (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage is hinting that he’ll call a special legislative session this fall to bring up an undisclosed issue, but says it will “push the envelope.”
The Republican governor’s comments were recorded at a GOP event in Bangor on Wednesday night and appeared Thursday in political columnist Mike Tipping’s blog. In it, LePage says he has a plan to call lawmakers into special session but said the legislation he’s looking at is being reviewed by the attorney general.
While not divulging the topic, LePage says it’s what a lot of other Republican states have done.
“I think we can get it done in about a day and the Democrats, if you think they hate me now… Wow,” LePage says on the recording.
Democratic leaders say the governor should make his “secret plans” for a special session public. Rep. Emily Cain of Orono says LePage “is making partisan political threats and keeping the public in the dark.”
