WATERVILLE — The Department of Maine Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 held their 100th convention on June 23 at the Hampton Inn.
It opened with a granddaughter’s breakfast followed by the meeting called to order by department president Elsie Bonney.
The charter was draped in memory of deceased past national presidents, real daughters and members.
Nancy Battick of Tent 23 and Marilyn Jones of Tent 19 each received patriotic angel pins for taking in five new members to each tent during the past year.
Past national president Gail Butterfield brought greetings to the group from national president Barbara Stone.
Sally Sawyer and Jane Wardwell each received 50-year pins for their long membership.
Delegates were chosen for the 2012 convention in California. Sally Sawyer will attend as delegate with Beth Varney as alternate.
A picture of Albert Wilson, who was the last surviving Union veteran of the Civil War, was on display. He died in 1956 in Minnesota. A floral tribute was paid to all veterans and members who had died.
