Cheer boosters to hold car washes

LEWISTON — Lewiston High School Cheer Boosters will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at three locations: Irving on Main Street, Lisbon Street News on Lisbon Street and Grease Lighting on Sabattus Street, to raise money for the LHS cheerleaders to attend Cheer Camp.

Book sale, art exhibit

WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library Summer Book Sale and Art Exhibit opens Saturday, June 30, at 8 a.m. and runs through July 7. The sale and exhibit will take place at a new location, 14 Old Winthrop Road, across the street from the library. Recently acquired by the library, this is one of the oldest houses in Wayne, and the former home of Eleazer and Honor Williams.

Many many community volunteers have been working long hours to clean, paint and freshen up the Williams house and the book sale is the first time the building is open to the public.

During the week-long book sale, the library will showcase the paintings of Dorle Gatti, an accomplished artist and a long time resident of Wayne. Many will remember Dorle’s Tea Shop on the corner of Old Winthrop Road and Route 133. This is the first time that Dorle’s private collection has been exhibited in Wayne.

The book sale and art exhibit will be open on Saturday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Monday, July 2, through Saturday, July 7, during regular library hours: Monday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). On Saturday, July 7, all books will be $1 per bag.

Farmers Market June 30 in Wayne

WAYNE — The Wayne Farmers’ Market annual July 4 Market Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 30. The CAMP’R Band, made up of Chris Cushman and friends, will perform and children’s activities will be offered for free.

There will be music, face painting and gardening in a pot with herbs and flowers. New this year, The Wayne General Store Small Town Bakery will offer free cupcake decorating for children.

Crime writer to visit library

AUBURN — Nationally known crime and mystery writer Gerry Boyle will visit the Auburn Public Library at 6 p.m. Monday, July 2, as part of his Summer 2012 Maine Library Tour.

Known for his Jack McMorrow and Brandon Blake crime and mystery series, Boyle’s works include titles such as “Damaged Good,” “Port City Shakedown” and “Port City Black and White.” A Maine resident and Colby College graduate, Boyle has set most of his novels in the Portland area using many familiar landmarks. ‘Glee’ camp begins July 9

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education will present a week-long Glee Camp the week of July 9 for campers ages 10-16.

Follow the steps that the “Glee” characters go through in the show to make an episode – learning the music, recording, adding dance moves then video recording resulting in a music video of the songs learned. Campers will take home a copy of the finished product.

Class will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $50.

Soccer camp starts July 9

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education’s Summer 2012 program will hold soccer camps Monday through Thursday, July 9-12.

Boys and girls can improve their soccer skills through drills, games and competitive situations with the Leavitt Area High School girls soccer team. First- through third-grade student camp runs from 9 to 10 a.m. Fourth through sixth-graders will attend from 10 to 11 a.m. Fee for each camp is $25.
