KEENE, N.H. — Keene State College awarded 1,196 degrees to 1,107 students at commencement on May 5. This year’s graduates included Joseph Gardner of Auburn and Jessica Rice of Durham.

NEW LONDON, Conn. — The United States Coast Guard Academy has announced that Kristine M. Kahl of Monmouth has been recognized for superior academic achievement and leadership potential.

Kristine, who attends Monmouth Academy, has accepted an appointment to attend the Coast Guard Academy and will be sworn in as a member of the Class of 2016 on June 25.

Kristine is the daughter of Robert and Danielle Kahl and granddaughter of David and Donna Kahl of West Islip, N.Y., and James and Donna Crawford of Temperance, Mich.

ELMIRA, N.Y. — Katherine E. Slye graduated from Elmira College on June 3. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science, graduating summa cum laude. She is the daughter of Bradford and Pamela Slye of New Gloucester.

While attending Elmira College Slye earned admission into the following honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa, Triota, Pi Sigma Alpha, Pi Gamma Mu, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta and Phi Eta Sigma.

She will be entering the University of New York Albany’s Rockefeller College of Political Science in the fall to pursue her doctoral degree in political science.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Kaylee Tyburski of Lewiston, Maine, a senior nursing major at Saint Anselm College, received a Saint Anselm College nurse’s pin at the 2012 pinning ceremony in the Abbey Church on April 28.

Tyburski received a Bachelor of Science in nursing on May 19 at commencement ceremonies.

NEWTON, Mass. — The following Lewiston students have attained dean’s list status for the 2012 spring semester at Lasell College.

Kimberly Archibald is a member of the Class of 2013, majoring in sport management.

Lisa Fillmore is a member of the Class of 2013, majoring in IDS early childhood education.

WENHAM, Mass. —On May 19, Lindsey Morton, daughter of Roderick and Barbara Morton of New Gloucester, received a bachelor’s degree in social work with a minor in nonprofit organization management and social entrepreneurship from Gordon College.

While at Gordon, Morton participated in the dance ministry. Morton graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in Gray, Maine, in 2008.

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Marissa Deku of Lewiston, Maine, was among the more than 3,700 prospective candidates for degree attending University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee commencement exercises May 20.

Deku earned her Master of Library and Information Science at the School of Information Studies.

NEWPORT, R.I.  — The following hometown residents were awarded degrees during Salve Regina University’s 62nd commencement on May 20:

Natani Katherine Butler of Naples, Maine was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Kristina M. Ouellette of Lewiston, Maine was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree in management.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Sarah Ryan Elwell of Lewiston was among more than 2,800 students who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at commencement exercises May 4 and 5. 

Elwell received a Bachelor of Science in animal science from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Samantha Ricker of Lewiston, Maine, was recently honored as a Merrimack College Presidential Scholar in recognition of strong academic achievements at the Honors Convocation held on the campus. Ricker is a psychology major.
