NAPLES — Blues will fill the air this weekend when the Maine Blues Festival presents a lineup of nonstop music by bands and vocalists at many venues around town.
The event, always held on Father’s Day weekend, gets going on Friday with several performers appearing at local pubs and restaurants. They include Mark “Guitar” Miller, Blue Steel Express and Denny Breau.
The Songo River Queen II paddlewheel vessel will offer an evening blues cruise and dockside concert Friday, as well as cruises with bands on Saturday and Sunday. There is a charge for the cruises.
Shuttle buses will be running though the day on Saturday. There will be vendor, artisan and children’s events around town, and bands will play for the public at the Village Green.
Three blues cruises on Saturday aboard the Songo River Queen II paddlewheel boat ($10) are slated for noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, with a dockside concert at 9 p.m. Different bands play for each cruise.
Saturday afternoon and evening will feature continuous blues performances at several locations.
The weekend’s list of performers include Jimmy and the Soulcats, Downeast Soul Coalition, Annmarie Smith Blues Band, Zack Pomerleau Blues Band, Blues Dogz, The Bad Daddies, Matt and the Barnburners, Luther James, Probable Cause, Brad Hooper, Poor Howard and Bullfrog, Poke Chop and the Other White Meats, Colwell Brothers and Forest City Drifters.
Also, Blue Willow Band, Samuels, Midgley and Tripp, Dave Mello, Trailer Trash, Bonnie Edwards and the Practical Cats, Blind Albert, Ragged Jack, the Blue Jets, Roy-Hudson Band, the Pinecasters, the Sensations, Rick Miller and his Band, Pam Baker and the SGs, Juke Joint Rebels and The Blind Lemons.
And, Wakefield Brothers, D.W. Gill and the Blues Prophets, the Tzone Kings, Preservation Blues Band, Blood Orange Martinis, Breau with guest Justin Linday, Blue Sky Project, Dr. Dann and the Off-Mission Blues Band, Delta Knights, Bellamy Jazz Band and Broadcast the Coast.
The festival wraps up on Sunday with more performances at several venues.
