EVANSTON, Ill. — Lucy M. Knowlton of Turner was named the winner of the National Merit Bowdoin College Scholarship. She is a graduate of Leavitt Area High School, Turner, and plans to study education – history.

Winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities are selected from among the finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend the institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. The total number of recipients in the 2012 competition is approximately 4,800.
