FRYEBURG — Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the time to salute America’s veterans and honor military personnel. In keeping with this tradition, White Mountain Musical Arts will put on its sixth annual musical tribute.
Performing Sunday, May 27, will be the Seacoast Wind Ensemble, a John Philip Sousa-style, 50-piece band formed in 1984. The 7:30 p.m concert will be at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Bradley Street at Fryeburg Academy.
The program will open with “The Star-Spangled Banner” and feature many patriotic tunes and marches, selections from “Oliver,” a singalong and the traditional Armed Forces salute, when audience members are asked to stand while their particular Armed Forces theme is played. The program will end with “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” by Sousa.
The concert is dedicated to the memory of J. W. Fisher, chief master sergeant retired US Air Force, who served his country with honor for more than 30 years.
The Seacoast Wind Ensemble is led by Mark Zielinski, lecturer of music education at the University of New Hampshire. He also teaches trumpet at the Manchester Community Music School and the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center.
The concert is free, but donations to the White Mountain Musical Arts will be accepted.
