AUBURN — More than 225 people attended the fifth annual Central Maine Community College Annual Dinner held recently at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event was hosted by the college’s Education Foundation Board of Directors.

President Scott Knapp’s “State of the College” address focused on several program and capital improvements the college has completed; the strategic plan for the campus which includes a new building; collaborations with business and industry, including the Supervisor Development Program at Bath Iron Works; and new grant initiatives, including one that will recruit and train students in precision machining technology.

The event also included the presentation of awards to individuals and organizations noted for their achievements or contributions to the college. The following students were honored: Erika Derosier of Lewiston and Kyle Forsythe of Harrison, All-Maine Academic Team; Nick Hinkley of Wiscasset and Danielle McCusker of South Portland, Male and Female Athletes of the Year; Delan Fulgham of Lewiston, Scholarship Recipient of the Year; Jairus Smith of Oxford and Josline DuBois of Wilton, “Against All Odds” Awards; Matthew MacDonald of Turner, Student of the Year; David Maddox of Raymond, Student Veteran of the Year; Jennifer Lyons of Sabattus, Staff Person of the Year; Barbara Barth, Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year; Bruce Tisdale, president of Mountain Machine Works, Corporate Partner of the Year. In addition, business instructors Denis Bouttenot, Stephen Doak and Mike Henry were honored for their contributions to the BIW Leadership Development Program.

Proceeds from the dinner, which are expected to exceed $20,000, benefit the foundation’s scholarship fund. The mission of the CM Education Foundation is to provide financial support to CMCC and its students, to advocate on behalf of the college and to nurture relationships with the community and constituencies. The Foundation also serves in an advisory capacity to help evaluate CMCC programming and course offerings.
