AUBURN — Auburn Recreation & Parks and Auburn Exchange Club present Auburn’s Youth Fishing Derby. For ages 9-12 the event will kick off on Saturday, May 5, from 8 to 11 a.m., rain or shine.
For ages 3-8 the derby will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 8 to 11 a.m., also rain or shine.
The cost is $5 per person, paid the day of the derby. Pettengill Pond will be stocked with more than 400 brook trout ranging in size from six to 12 inches.
Anglers are limited to one line in the water and four fish caught. For the safety of all participants, only worms or artificial bait may be used. No artificial lures, no fly fishing and minimal casting allowed.
Awards are presented immediately following each derby. Trophies are awarded in each division for largest fish, greatest total weight, greatest total length, as well as one trophy for each day for the first fish caught.
