FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will host a 5 K/10 K Kids Fun Run on Sunday, April 29, downtown to benefit programs that aim to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts.
Registration the day of the event begins at 7 a.m., but online preregistration is encouraged.
“This is the first time the Franklin County Children’s Task Force has undertaken such an event,” Executive Director Renee Blanchet said in a statement. “However we have a great race director who has run many marathons so we are looking forward to a great race day.”
Proceeds from this 5 K/10 K will help provide parent education resources for community families.
Participants may register online at www.active.com using keywords “Run to Prevent Child Abuse” and sign up for the run of their choice. The preregistration cost for adults is $20 for the 5 K and $30 for the 10 K; people may also register the day of the race for an additional $2.
The first 50 registrants will receive free running shirts. For children under 12, the Kids Fun Run is free; children will enjoy a race around the block with ribbons for all. Race fees are tax deductible.
All ages are welcome to participate in the 5 K, but no pets, skateboards, rollerblades or bicycles are allowed on the course. T-shirts will be available for all runners at the event, and to keep runners and walkers well hydrated, the course will provide two water stations.
Participants of the 5 K/10 K may pay by credit card online, or in person the day of the race with checks made out to the FCCTF.
Registration and check-in begin at 7 a.m. the morning of the race at the FCCTF offices on 113 Church St. in Farmington. For more information, contact Renee Blanchet 778-6960 or Race Director Brian Whitley at 831-1028.
