Church activities
SUMNER — Pastor Howard MacMullen invites the neighbors of the Congregational Church of East Sumner to join in the upcoming activities:
Senior lunch and bingo take place every third Wednesday of the month at noon. Knitting group also takes place on third Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Bible Study is held at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.
In March, youths will sell raffle calendars for Pilgrim Lodge camp scholarships.
On March 2, World Day of Prayer will be observed at Buckfield Community Church at 1 p.m.
March 3 will be a community potluck dinner and raffle at 5:30 p.m. Bring a dish or donation.
March 11 will feature a Girl Scout Sunday presentation during worship. Church and Sunday School takes place from 9 to 10 a.m.
The Church houses the Food Bank for Sumner residents on the first and third Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Worship service
PARIS — Anita White will lead the worship service on March 4 at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street. White’s sermon for the 10 a.m. service is titled, “Our Stories.” Music is under the direction of pianist Linda Stowell and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee, brunch and fellowship will follow the service and all are welcomed. Childcare is available.
Cookie sale
OXFORD — Oxford Cadette Troop 2233 will hold a cookie booth sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 10 and 11, at Polly’s Variety on King Street. For information, call 539-8472.
Indoor yard sale
PARIS — An indoor yard sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the American Legion Post 72 on Church Street. The lunch counter will be open and 50/50 tickets will be available. Another sale will take place April 14. Contact Jean Britton at 739-2236 to reserve a table.
Erosion course
PARIS — As part of its ongoing mission to help protect water quality in our local lakes, rivers and streams, the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor a Maine DEP course in “Basic and Advanced Erosion and Sediment Control Practices” on Friday, March 16. The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Waterford Town Office, on 366 Valley Road.
The registration fee for the course is $35 per person and includes all course materials and lunch. Class size is limited and participants must preregister by March 12. Register by calling Michele Windsor at the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District, 743-5789 ext. 101, or download a copy of the registration form from www.oxfordswcd.net and return the form with a check payable to “Oxford County SWCD” by March 12.
