“Going! Going! Gone!” They went, all right. They sold slathers of boxes at the box social and dance held by at Tecumseh Tribe of Red Men hall, Auburn, Wednesday night. All men had to pay admission to this affair, but the ladies were admitted free if only they brought a box. Nason’s orchestra furnished music for the dance. The ladies from Pocahontas attended the affair in a body.
 
50 years ago, 1962
The City of Auburn is faced with a serious problem in the proposed nine-mill tax increase, but even more serious is the continuing trend upward at an alarming rate, City Manager Woodbury E. Brackett declared. “This is everyone’s problem,” Brackett pointed out as he called for taxpayers to join the city council now in search for a solution.

March came in roaring like a lion Sunday, dumping more than six inches of
snow and freezing rain on Lewiston-Auburn. Although a dry February may have had central Maine residents looking forward to the official beginning of spring March 20, Sunday’s storm served as a reminder that winter is still here.
