FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Ramblers will present a concert of bluegrass and acoustic music on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Lead singer Stan Keach is a nationally known bluegrass songwriter who has written hits for national bluegrass stars the likes of Audie Blaylock, James King and Danny Paisley.

The Sandy River Ramblers also includes banjoist Bud Godsoe of Madrid, who learned to play banjo while working on the Alaska pipeline in the 1960s;  Dan Simons, a neo-traditionalist who models his mandolin playing on bluegrass founder Bill Monroe’s style; and Liz Keach, who plays bass and sings lead and harmony parts.

The concert will also feature virtuoso fiddler Jay Smith of Industry. Smith has been studying music at the University of Southern Maine and playing in Wilf Clark’s Misty Mountaineers, as well as in classical ensembles. He will play a set of fiddle tunes along with a set with the Ramblers.

Also, Ed Desjardins, well-known guitarist, singer-songwriter, recording engineer, and concert promoter from Readfield, will perform a set that will include songs from his “Innerspace” CD.

The concert will benefit the Farmington Emblem Club. There will be refreshments and a 50/50 raffle.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m.in Nordica Auditorium at Merrill Hall. Admission is $5 at the door.
