LEWISTON — He’s back.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will visit the state again today, a heavy caucus day, hoping to lock up his first win when statewide results are announced tonight.

He’s scheduled to visit the Androscoggin County Republican Caucus at 10 a.m. at Geiger Elementary School.

Paul also plans stops at 8 a.m. in Sanford; 12:30 p.m. at the Memorial School gym in New Gloucester; and the “Caucus Night Party” at 6 p.m. in Portland.

“I think it’s just the final strategy in Maine to hold our delegates firm in their support of Ron Paul,” said state campaign Chairman Paul Madore. “In all of this, this is really intended for those who have it in their heart to caucus.”

Madore estimated that the congressman from Texas drew almost 800 people when he held a town hall meeting at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston on Jan. 27.

Maine towns began caucusing Feb. 4. Republican Party leaders plan to make a night of the tabulated results Saturday with an event at the Portland Regency. It begins at 6:15 p.m. with a string of speakers, including U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. State Party Chairman Charlie Webster will announce the caucus winner at 6:45 p.m.
