FARMINGTON — A benefit dance for the Fuel Oil Assistance Fund, Warm Hearts, Warm Homes, planned for this Friday, Feb. 3, has raised more than $4,000 with a donation of matching funds to help keep local residents warm this winter.
The Sandy River Charitable Foundation will match receipts from the dance up to $5,000, doubling the impact of ticket sales for the Friday dance and entertainment planned from 6:30 to 11 p.m. in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington.
The dance is a Hollywood dress-up and those attending are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Hollywood stars. Anyone who comes in costume will receive a free non-alcoholic drink.
Shepherd’s Pie, a local dance band, will provide music. Mt. Blue Voices and Teacher’s Lounge Mafia will also provide entertainment.
Roving paparazzi will mingle among the “stars” who receive a red carpet entrance and an opportunity to be photographed against a background of their choice with “green screen” photography.
Hors d’oeuvres and a full cash bar will be available along with reasonably-priced, on-site baby sitting provided by UMF honors students.
Tickets are $10 and are available at Devaney, Doak and Garrett and Calico Patch or at the door. The Outskirts is offering 10 percent discounts on costume sales or rentals. Limited, special VIP seating, which includes a free drink. Hot hors d’oeuvres is available for $25.
Local sponsors and supporters have grown to number in excess of 20 individuals, and community organizations including Rotary, Franklin Memorial Hospital, Franklin Savings Bank and Kyes Insurance are among the VIP table sponsors.
The event is spearheaded by Western Maine Community Action and Franklin Area Ecumenical Ministries.
