CPR class
FARMINGTON — The Fitness and Recreation Center will host a first aid and CPR/AED course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. A one-hour lunch break is provided. This course meets the requirements for individuals who coach and care for children.
Participants will learn to respond and care for unconscious victims, breathing emergencies, sudden illness, bleeding and more. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice with a certified instructor, participants will gain confidence in caring for adults, children and infants.
After completing all requirements of the course, participants will receive American Red Cross adult, child and infant CPR/AED and first aid certifications, valid for two years.
Preregistration is required. Cost is $57 FRC members and UMF faculty, staff and students; $62 nonmembers. Inquiries regarding the course and those wishing to register should contact Jennifer at 778-7437 or jennifer.pageot@maine.edu. A minimum of four participants are required.
Self-esteem course
FARMINGTON — Maine Centers for Women, Work, and Community will offer a four-week self-esteem training from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 24 and 31, and Feb. 7 and 14, at their Farmington Center, 108 Perham St.
If long-term unemployment or job search has caused lagging confidence, attend this four-week class to help you understand and assess your self-esteem and build your self-confidence. Discussion will include concrete tools to raise self-esteem and build confidence to help in job searches and career planning.

Heat fund dance
FARMINGTON — Warm Hearts Warm Homes, the ecumenical fuel oil fund benefit dance, will take place from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the University of Maine at Farmington North Dining Hall. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Calico Patch and Devaney Doak and Garrett Booksellers. Cash or checks made out to ECU Heat will be accepted.
Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite star. Babysitting available on site. The event will feature performances by Shepherd’s Pie, Teacher’s Lounge Mafia and Mt. Blue Voices.
