100 years ago, 1912
W. R. Lincoln of Howe Street entertained Fox & Ward at his home last evening. Fox & Ward is a team which has been appearing at Music Hall this week and Mr. Lincoln was with them for 18 years. It was the first time they have been together for 15 years and a very enjoyable evening was spent.
50 years ago, 1962
Game Warden Lyle Frost of Lewiston reported last night that dogs are killing a lot of deer in the Androscoggin Game Preserve, south of Turner.
Warden Frost said that so far in January he knows of ten deer being killed in the northern end of the game preserve. The game preserve stretches from the Waterman Road in Auburn to the Turner Center Bridge Road, between the Turner Road and the Androscoggin River.
25 years ago, 1987
Federal officials told the cities of Lewiston and Auburn Friday to stop dumping snow in the Androscoggin River or face court action, but Auburn Public Works Director Bob Belz says the cost of trucking snow elsewhere will make it very difficult to comply with the order.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that by dumping into the river, the Twin Cities are violating the National Clean Waters Act. If the cities do not comply voluntarily, they may find themselves in court. And that’s news to Belz and his Lewiston counterpart, Christopher C. Branch.
