FARMINGTON — A Farmington police cruiser slid on black ice and hit the guardrail of the bridge over Temple Stream on Saturday night, Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Christopher Chase said Monday.

Farmington officer Wayne Drake, 30, of Farmington was headed east on Wilton Road when he spotted a speeding vehicle going in the opposite direction, Chase said. He turned his cruiser around and it slid on black ice on the bridge over Temple Stream, sending it into the guardrail, he said.

Drake was not hurt and the Ford Crown Victoria was driven from the scene, Chase said. He estimated there was about $1,500 damage to the passenger side.
