FARMINGTON — State police are interested in talking to anyone they haven’t talked to already who had contact with Juan A. Contreras this past summer, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Tuesday.

Contreras, 27, of Waltham, Mass., is charged with murder in the death of Grace Burton, 81, of Farmington who was stabbed June 21 in her apartment.

Contreras was arrested Thursday after his DNA matched that in blood samples taken at the crime scene. He appeared before a judge in Farmington on Monday. He will be held without bail until at least January when his case goes before a grand jury.

According to a police affidavit, Burton was stabbed 35 times on her body and she died as a result of the stab wounds. Prior to her death, Burton was able to give police details about her attacker.

Contreras, of Waltham, was living on Pillsbury Lane, off Fairbanks Road or Route 4, less than a quarter-mile Burton’s first-floor apartment at Margaret Chase Smith Apartments on Fairbanks Road. Contreras is accused of cutting a screen and entering a window at Burton’s residence.

If anyone has had any interaction with Contreras and they haven’t talked to police, they are asked to call the Maine State Police barracks in Gray at 657-3030 or Farmington Police Department at 778-6311.
