This is in response to the Sun Journal article “Coyote wars,” printed Nov. 20.

While it may be true that there have been a few bad winters, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that with an increase of the coyote population there would be a decline in the deer population.

I have learned that coyotes breed less when there is no food to sustain the population. The surge in the coyote population spells disaster for the weaker breeds. I understand bears and bobcats are predators, but the coyotes are the biggest problem. If you don’t believe that the increase in the numbers of coyotes is what has depleted the deer population, just who is kidding whom?

Maine is not the only state to have a problem with coyotes. Did state officials ask any of the other states for input, especially those states south of Maine?

By the way, I don’t hunt and haven’t had a hunting license for years.
